Scottish towns advance urban regeneration and infrastructure projects

Infrastructure improvement projects are progressing in several Scottish towns. In Oban, works at Argyll Square have been completed for £31,344, finishing nearly £7,000 under the allocated £38,000 budget. The improvements included the replacement of flagpoles and benches, the installation of a lectern, the removal of an unused electric box, and new tree and shrub planting.

In Ayr, a major £15 million overhaul of Burns Statue Square is being planned. The project, funded largely by the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, is expected to enter the detailed design phase this month. If approved by the South Ayrshire Council, construction is slated to begin in early 2027. This initiative is part of a broader investment strategy that includes transport improvements and active travel routes across the South Ayrshire region.
