Scottsdale man arrested after shooting at apartment complex

Samuel Ellery Stengwick, 49, was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, following a shooting spree at an apartment complex near the intersection of Miller and Osborne roads. According to court documents, the incident began after Stengwick allegedly offered cocaine to residents, who refused. Stengwick reportedly stated that their refusal was ‘offensive to his culture’ and proceeded to assault a man.

During the altercation, a bystander struck Stengwick in the face with a claw hammer to protect the victim. Stengwick then allegedly threatened to kill everyone present, struck the victim with a gun butt, and fled to his nearby apartment. After discovering a broken tooth in a mirror, Stengwick returned to the scene on a bicycle and fired 10 shots at the complex. The gunfire struck a parking area and hit a neighboring apartment's window and roof.

Police, including patrol officers, detectives, and K-9 units, quickly apprehended the suspect. Stengwick was treated at a local hospital before being booked into Maricopa County Jail.
