Scout recovers after lightning strike on Monte Livata

A 16-year-old scout is showing significant signs of recovery after being struck by lightning on Monte Livata during a camping trip on August 7. The teenager, who suffered a cardiac arrest following the electrical discharge, has woken from a coma and is now able to speak with his parents and move his limbs.

He is currently being treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Policlinico Gemelli in Rome, under the direction of Professor Marco Piastra. Medical staff noted that the “chain of survival”—which included immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation performed by fellow scouts and rapid emergency services—was decisive in his survival.

If his clinical progress continues, doctors plan to evaluate the lifting of his prognosis and transition him to a second phase of care focused on neurorehabilitation to address potential neurological or functional consequences.
