Screen Australia invests AUD 16.9 million in 75 film projects

Screen Australia has announced a funding initiative exceeding AUD 16.9 million ($11.7 million) to support 75 projects across various stages of production and development. The investment covers a diverse range of features, series, and short films intended to support both emerging and established Australian storytellers.

Among the notable projects is the feature film “The Best Of,” which marks the directing debut of Toni Collette. Based on the bestselling novel by Graeme Simsion, the film is produced by Collette and Christopher Simon. The story follows two former lovers who reconnect after several decades. The production received significant investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen NSW, with Kismet managing local distribution and Cornerstone handling international sales.

Other highlighted projects include “The Dark Lake,” a series from Brouhaha Entertainment based on Sarah Bailey’s novel, featuring Phoebe Tonkin. Additionally, Jeffrey Walker will direct the feature film “Bull,” which is inspired by a true story regarding a prisoner in Tasmania.
