Screenwest updates First Nations funding programs
Screenwest has announced significant changes to its First Nations funding structures following industry consultations and reviews. The First Nations Practitioners Development Fund has been renamed the First Nations Practitioner Equity Fund, focusing on professional skills development and travel assistance for Western Australian First Nations screen practitioners. National travel contributions have increased from $1,500 to $2,000, with regional applicants eligible for up to $500 toward non-direct flight costs.
Project development funding has also seen an increase, with support rising from $15,000 to up to $25,000 for documentary projects and up to $35,000 for scripted projects. Additionally, funds from the former First Nations Low-Budget Television Fund, which saw minimal uptake, have been repurposed to create the First Nations Special Initiatives Fund. This new, internally managed fund aims to build pathways for talent and businesses and support strategic opportunities or initiatives led by federal agencies.
All applications will now be processed through the SmartyGrants online portal.
