Television industry updates: Netflix pilots, Grey's Anatomy premiere, and series delays
Several major television developments are underway across the industry. Netflix has commissioned a pilot for a new adaptation of the British teen cult classic ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’, based on Louise Rennison’s book series. The project, involving Fifth Season and Rise Films, is set to be filmed in the United Kingdom.
In the United States, ABC has premiered the 23rd season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. The season opener, titled ‘Collide’, focuses on a mass casualty event following an airport collision at Seattle-Tacoma, while also introducing conflicts regarding a new VIP floor at Grey Sloan Memorial.
Regarding other series, the second season of the queer hockey drama ‘Heated Rivalry’ is expected to arrive in late spring 2027 on HBO Max and Crave. Creator Jacob Tierney noted that while a specific date is not yet set, the new season will draw from the sixth book in the ‘Game Changers’ series. Meanwhile, the ‘Scrubs’ reboot faces casting uncertainty, as Zach Braff indicated that 86-year-old Ken Jenkins may not return as Dr. Kelso due to his age and retirement.
