SCS Software releases 1.61 Open Beta for truck simulators

SCS Software has released the 1.61 Open Beta for its simulation titles, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. The update introduces significant visual and gameplay improvements.

A major focus of the update is an enhanced material system for truck interiors. This technology optimizes lighting and visual quality, making materials such as leather, fabric, plastic, and metal more distinguishable and realistic, even in low-light conditions. In Euro Truck Simulator 2, this feature is being extended to the Volvo FH Series 6, following its implementation in models like the DAF NG and MAN TGX.

American Truck Simulator players will benefit from a new ‘Proximity Exploration’ feature. This quality-of-life addition automatically reveals small areas around the player’s truck during travel, reducing the tedium of achieving 100% map exploration while still requiring players to drive through hidden routes to fully uncover them. The update also aims to expand cargo options and prepare the game for the upcoming Road Trip project.
