SCTV sketch comedy series to stream on Netflix in September

Netflix will begin streaming all six seasons of the classic sketch comedy series Second City Television, commonly known as SCTV, starting September 1, 2026. The acquisition includes all 135 episodes and will be available in multiple international regions, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

Originating from the Toronto branch of the Second City improv troupe, the series aired between 1976 and 1984. The show follows the output of a fictional, low-budget television station in the town of Melonville. It served as a major launchpad for comedy legends such as Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, John Candy, Martin Short, and Harold Ramis.

While Netflix will host the series internationally, Amazon Prime Video previously secured exclusive rights to the show specifically for Canadian viewers. Historically, the series has been difficult to access on home video due to music licensing issues, making this streaming release a significant event for fans of the genre.
