Scuderie del Quirinale hosts major Pontormo exhibition
The Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome is hosting the first major monographic exhibition dedicated to Jacopo da Pontormo, a central figure of the Florentine Cinquecento and a pioneer of Mannerism. The exhibition runs from October 9 to February 7.
Curated by Cristina Acidini, the showcase brings together the artist's primary masterpieces and an extensive selection of works on paper. The collection includes significant pieces from the Gallerie degli Uffizi, as well as international loans from institutions such as the Louvre, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
The exhibition traces Pontormo's evolution from his early collaborative works under Andrea del Sarto to his mature period characterized by visionary autonomy, bright colors, and strong contrasts. Key works featured include the 'Visitation' from the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Carmignano and the 'Pietà' (or Transport of Christ) from the Capponi Chapel.
