Söderhamn Municipality investigates energy hub in Vallvik

Söderhamn Municipality has commissioned the technical consultancy Rejlers to conduct a feasibility study for a potential energy hub in Vallvik, Sweden. The project aims to investigate how various energy sources and industrial activities can be integrated into a single, symbiotic system to meet the growing demand for fossil-free electricity and hydrogen.

The study will evaluate the technical, environmental, and socio-economic viability of combining small modular reactors (SMRs), offshore wind power, and hydrogen production with existing industrial operations. Key areas of investigation include potential locations for SMRs, the onshore connection of offshore wind, land use, transportation requirements, and safety and risk management.

Rejlers will perform the study using expertise from its subsidiaries, Solvina and Risk Pilot, covering fields such as nuclear technology, energy systems, and process integration. The goal is to provide the municipality with a comprehensive decision-making basis for future investments and long-term energy supply in the region.
