Södertälje District Court convicts 18-year-old for inciting suicide
An 18-year-old girl has been convicted by the Södertälje District Court for inciting suicide. The conviction follows an incident in March 2026 where the defendant sent a message to another girl containing detailed instructions regarding suicide and stating that no one would miss her.
The prosecution argued the message posed a concrete danger, noting the defendant was aware of the recipient's history of self-harm and mental health struggles. While the defendant claimed the message was intended to stop the recipient from harassing her, the court ruled that the wording constituted clear incitement to suicide.
The defendant was acquitted of assault charges related to a separate incident in March. The court found insufficient evidence to prove the physical altercation was not a mutual fight.
The sentence imposed is youth care under a youth contract established by the social welfare committee, and the defendant must pay 8,000 SEK in damages to the victim.
