SDP initiates expulsion proceedings against MEP Romana Jerković Kraljić
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Croatia has initiated disciplinary proceedings against MEP Romana Jerković Kraljić, which could result in her expulsion from the party. The decision is expected on October 8, following a proposal by party leader Siniša Hajdaš Dončić.
The move follows an investigation by Politico regarding healthcare-themed events organized by the MEP in Strasbourg and Brussels in late 2024. The controversy centers on allegations that the events, funded by the S&D political group, included participants such as family members and friends who were listed in official documentation with fabricated professional titles. Specifically, individuals including an actor and an art historian were reportedly identified as professors at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka.
Jerković Kraljić has denied violating any rules, characterizing the discrepancies in professional titles as “administrative errors.” She defended the inclusion of non-medical participants by stating that healthcare is a broad field that encompasses lifestyle, education, and social environments, and thus involves various professions.
