SDP proposes tougher gang penalties and stricter immigration rules
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has introduced a new policy package titled ‘A safe everyday life for young people’ during its summer meeting in Kouvola. The proposal includes measures to combat gang crime and tighten integration requirements for immigrants.
To address organized crime, the SDP proposes doubling the penalties for gang criminals and individuals participating in organized crime, specifically targeting those who incite minors to commit serious offenses or foreigners who enter Finland to commit crimes. The party aims to send a signal to international criminal organizations that such activities are not profitable.
Regarding immigration, the SDP suggests linking social security benefits to language studies and limiting the availability of free interpretation services after a certain period of residency. The party emphasizes that immigrants should commit to Finnish societal values and learn the national languages to prevent the formation of parallel societies. Other proposed measures include making support programs mandatory for at-risk youth and limiting the duration of home care support to encourage immigrant women to enter the workforce.
