SDSM calls for restrictions on dual citizenship for officials

The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) has voiced support for a Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) initiative to restrict dual citizenship for state officials. The party is calling for the proposed law to be reintroduced in the Assembly for parliamentary procedure.

SDSM demands that the restrictions apply without exception to all current members of parliament, ministers, government officials, and directors of public enterprises. The party argues that individuals receiving salaries from the state must demonstrate clear and undivided loyalty to the country.

SDSM further criticized the perceived blocking of previous legislative efforts and urged for the immediate adoption of the law without delay or compromise, noting that true patriotism is demonstrated through loyalty to a single state.
