SDSM criticizes Macedonian government over budget and border security

The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) has issued sharp criticisms against Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and his government, alleging widespread mismanagement of state finances and border security.

SDSM leader Venko Filipče stated that while funds are available for party tenders and high-profile events, there is a lack of support for workers, pensioners, and farmers. He highlighted that the government rejected proposals for a 600 euro minimum wage and financial aid for the agricultural sector, noting that farmers are facing an existential crisis.

Further allegations from the party claim the national budget faces a 900 million euro deficit and that the country has accumulated four billion euros in debt over two years. Additionally, the party accused the administration of failing to secure borders, citing instances of unauthorized crossings and the smuggling of narcotics, comparing the state of border control to ‘Swiss cheese’.
