SDSM criticizes Mickoski over data center energy plans

The SDSM political party has issued a sharp critique of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski regarding his plans to support data centers through gas-powered electricity. SDSM claims that the promised gas infrastructure and energy capacity do not currently exist, noting that the existing network capacity is significantly lower than the levels required to fuel large-scale server fleets.

According to the party, the current gas-powered infrastructure is limited to the TE-TO Skopje plant, which provides heat and electricity to the capital. SDSM argues that instead of domestic production, electricity for these data centers will have to be imported or diverted from domestic households. The party further alleged that the shift from water-based cooling to air cooling will increase electricity consumption and accused the government of engaging in corruption and manipulation regarding energy imports and infrastructure projects.
