SDSM criticizes Macedonian government over rising living costs and debt
The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) has issued a sharp critique of the government led by Hristian Mickoski following the latest budget rebalance. The opposition party claims that the government has failed to provide sufficient support for workers and farmers amidst rising inflation.
According to SDSM, the cost of living has increased by 4,000 denars since the start of the year. They report that the October union minimum basket exceeds 70,000 denars, reaching nearly 90,000 denars when rent is included. The party highlights that approximately 180,000 workers earn less than 31,200 denars per month, while the minimum wage remains stagnant at 26,000 denars.
Furthermore, SDSM alleges that the national debt has increased by approximately 4 billion euros over the last two years, representing half of the country's total historical debt. The opposition argues that these funds are being diverted toward party-related tenders rather than increasing the minimum wage to 600 euros or implementing measures to protect citizens from rising electricity and heating costs.
