North Macedonia will not send military personnel to Ukraine
North Macedonia's Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski has stated that the country will not send military personnel to Ukraine, emphasizing that North Macedonia has never undertaken such an obligation. Misajlovski clarified that while NATO membership does not mandate sending troops to Ukraine, the country is exploring other forms of support, such as donating equipment through tripartite agreements that could provide reciprocal support via international funds. He noted that these possibilities have already been discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Regarding regional security, Misajlovski asserted that North Macedonia does not face a direct security threat despite global tensions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He highlighted that as a NATO member, the country benefits from the Alliance's security guarantees and is investing in defense to remain an equal partner.
Domestically, political tensions remain high. SDSM President Venko Filipče criticized Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the current government, accusing them of being anti-European and neglecting the country's path toward European Union membership. Filipče warned that the government's current policies risk isolating North Macedonia from its regional neighbors who are progressing toward EU integration.
