Südthüringen weekend events: pool party, steam locomotive museum birthday, and herb workshop

From August 1 to 3, Südthüringen offers a series of family‑friendly activities. At the Meininger Freibad, a pool party begins at 14:00 on August 1, featuring a DJ, inflatable games and other interactive entertainment for children, teenagers and families. If weather forces a move indoors, the event will be relocated to the hall pool.

The Dampflok‑Erlebniswelt in Meiningen celebrates its second anniversary with extended opening hours (10:00‑17:00) and a special program that includes guided tours, a children’s audio guide, and an expert talk by city ambassador Werner Greif at 13:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can learn about the history and technology of steam locomotives and enjoy a birthday cake at the on‑site café.

On August 1, the regional BUND chapter hosts a herb‑workshop in the community garden at Schindgraben. Participants will discover native medicinal herbs, learn about their uses, and produce herbal products to take home under the guidance of Berit Klaedtke from the Schmalkalden herb school.
