Sea and OpenAI to host Regional Codex Hackathon in Kuala Lumpur
Sea and OpenAI have announced the Malaysian leg of the Sea x OpenAI Regional Codex Hackathon Series, scheduled for 5 December 2026, in Kuala Lumpur. The event, themed ‘Solving Unmet Needs with AI’, will bring together approximately 40 teams of developers, students, and startups to create practical software solutions using OpenAI’s Codex and frontier models like GPT-6 Astra.
Participants will receive mentorship from technical specialists from both companies during the 13-hour session. Top teams stand to win up to US$30,000 in API credits to further develop their projects. This initiative is part of a broader Asia Pacific tour that began in Singapore and has visited Taiwan, with upcoming stops planned for Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand.
The hackathon aims to support Malaysia’s national goal of becoming an ‘AI Nation’ by 2030 by fostering local technical capabilities and encouraging the responsible deployment of AI in everyday workflows.
