Sea and Sagat explore merger to create Northwest Italy airport system

Sea, the operator of Milan's Linate and Malpensa airports, and Sagat, the manager of Turin Caselle, are studying a corporate integration project to create a unified airport system for Northwest Italy. The initiative aims to coordinate investments, strategies, and development across the three hubs, potentially increasing negotiating power with airlines and facilitating the opening of new routes.

Sea has reportedly communicated the start of this feasibility study to F2i, the infrastructure fund that controls Sagat through its holding company, 2i Aeroporti. The integration is expected to be presented to shareholders in September. Under the proposed plan, the Municipality of Milan would maintain its majority stake in the new entity, currently holding 54.8% of Sea.

The move aligns with the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport's National Airport Plan 2026-2035, which encourages more coordinated and complementary networks between regional and national airports. If realized, the combined entity would manage a significant volume of traffic, with Sea alone reporting over 47 million passengers and approximately 940 million euros in turnover in recent fiscal data.
