Lombardy infrastructure: Sea and Milano Serravalle announce major investments
Major infrastructure and transport entities in Lombardy are announcing significant investment plans and technological upgrades.
Sea Milan Airports has unveiled an investment plan totaling approximately 800 million euros between 2025 and 2029. A primary focus is Malpensa Airport, which will receive 600 million euros. This includes the T1XL project, a 100 million euro expansion of Terminal 1 designed to increase capacity for international and extra-Schengen flights. The project aims to modernize passenger flows, baggage handling, and commercial spaces, with the first phase expected to open in summer 2027 and full completion by 2028.
Simultaneously, Milano Serravalle – Milano Tangenziali Spa is prioritizing safety and service quality through digital transformation. The company is deploying artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling to prevent traffic jams, and over 600 intelligent cameras to monitor road behavior. They are also utilizing drones for incident monitoring and a “digital twin” of viaducts for predictive maintenance. Future investments will also target the modernization of guardrails and improved lighting on the Tangenziale Est and Nord.
Recent social media analysis highlights Malpensa's role as a strategic gateway for global business and tourism, while journalists emphasize the need for efficient rail connections, such as the Milano-Cadorna link, to fully integrate the airport with the wider regional economy.
