Sea lion incidents reported in Mexico and Chile
Recent reports highlight interactions between sea lions and humans in different coastal regions. In Guasave, Mexico, at Las Glorias beach, a sea lion was found injured among rocks near a restaurant area. Bystanders assisted the animal by returning it to the sea following heavy swells and high waves that likely contributed to its condition.
In Iquique, Chile, at Caleta Riquelme, a sea lion bit a fisherman during the morning hours. Local workers expressed concern regarding the increasing proximity of sea lions to commercial stalls. Fishermen noted that the animals are frequently drawn to the area by fish scraps and the practice of tourists feeding them, which may be altering their natural behavior.
