Sea lions spotted along the coast of Santa Catarina, Brazil

Sea lions have been spotted along the coast of Santa Catarina, Brazil, prompting wildlife monitoring and safety warnings. In Florianópolis, a sea lion was found resting on the sand at Praia dos Ingleses. Local authorities and the organization R3 Animal isolated the area, advising beachgoers to maintain distance and avoid feeding or touching the animal to prevent stress.

In a separate incident in Balneário Rincão, a sea lion was filmed being harassed by a pack of dogs. A local fisherman intervened, helping the animal escape. While preliminary assessments by the Unesc Zoology Museum indicated no visible skin injuries, experts are monitoring the animal due to its thin condition. Biologists have expressed concern regarding the recurring conflict between marine mammals and unleashed domestic animals on Santa Catarina beaches, noting a previous fatality in Araranguá earlier this year.

Experts note that the appearance of southern sea lions (Arctocephalus australis) is common during colder months as they migrate from reproductive areas in Uruguay and Argentina in search of food and rest.
