Sea Otter Europe cycling festival launches in Girona with record numbers
The tenth edition of Sea Otter Europe, the largest cycling festival in Europe, has commenced in Girona, Spain. This year’s event features record-breaking figures, including an exhibition area of 80,000 square meters—a 10% increase from the previous year—and more than 500 international brands such as Shimano and Garmin.
Organizers expect up to 75,000 visitors over the three-day event. The festival includes various sports competitions, conferences, and business forums. Director Albert Balcells noted the event's increasing internationalization, stating that brands are now arriving from outside of Europe.
Beyond the exhibition, the event highlights regional cooperation in cyclotourism. Through programs like EnjoyPyr, France, Spain, and Andorra are working together to develop cross-border cycling routes, recently introducing 12 new itineraries to promote the Pyrenees destination. While the event is guaranteed to remain in Girona until 2027, organizers have acknowledged certain challenges regarding its long-term continuity in the city beyond that date.
