Sea-Watch vessel rescues 28 migrants after fatal Mediterranean shipwreck

The Sea-Watch vessel Aurora rescued 28 migrants in the central Mediterranean off the coast of Tunisia during the night between September 28 and 29. However, the shipwreck resulted in eight deaths, including three children from a single family.

Sea-Watch claims that authorities were notified of the distress signal 12 hours before the rescue operation. The NGO also alleged that a Frontex surveillance aircraft, identified as Eagle6, flew over the area around 20:50 on September 28 but did not intervene. Sea-Watch stated that if these reports are confirmed, it would constitute a new case of complicity in a shipwreck.
