SEABER launches RAVEN compact AUV for underwater survey
French manufacturer SEABER has announced the launch of RAVEN, a new generation of compact autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) designed for mine countermeasures (MCM) and seabed surveying. The 13 kg vehicle features a 12 cm diameter and can be deployed by a single operator, aiming to provide high-end performance at approximately one-third the cost of conventional platforms.
RAVEN utilizes the proprietary LYNX optical-based inertial navigation system, which maintains a drift rate below 0.2% of the distance traveled. It includes a dual-antenna GNSS receiver with anti-jamming capabilities for use in contested environments. The AUV is available in two configurations: the SCAN-MAG version, which integrates a magnetometer for detecting metallic objects like naval mines, and the SCAN-LUMEN version, which features a high-definition camera and a 24,000-lumen lighting system for visual inspections.
Technical specifications for the RAVEN include a depth rating of 300 meters, speeds between 3 and 6 knots, and a maximum endurance of 8 hours.
