Seaboard conducts plastic cleanup at Manatee Marine Mammal Sanctuary
Seaboard (Transcontinental Capital Corporation LTD) conducted a solid waste collection operation at the Manatee Marine Mammal Sanctuary in the Estero Hondo community, Puerto Plata. The initiative resulted in the removal of over 2,000 pounds of plastic from the coastline.
The debris, which poses a threat to the manatee reserve, was reported to have originated from the Bajabonico and La Jaiba rivers, as well as other local streams. The cleanup effort involved more than 70 students from the Milagros Hernández and Lisandra Germosen Fondeur polytechnics.
Armando Rodríguez, Vice President and General Manager of Seaboard, stated that the company collaborated with the Patronato del Parque Ecológico Las Lagunas, directed by Franklin Toribio, and local community members to protect wildlife habitats and promote environmental sustainability.
