Seagulls appear in landlocked Erzurum

Large flocks of seagulls, typically associated with coastal regions, have been spotted in the landlocked city of Erzurum in Eastern Anatolia. The birds have been observed in significant numbers around the construction site of the ‘Science, Museum, Nature, History and Education Park’ on the Erzurum-Ilıca road, as well as near the city stadium and various urban areas.

Experts suggest the birds are utilizing the city as a temporary stopover and feeding station rather than a permanent habitat. The seagulls appear to be using the city's landfill as a primary food source, while utilizing the pools at the ongoing park construction site to rest and clean themselves.

Local residents have expressed fascination with the unexpected presence of the birds, noting that the sounds and sight of the seagulls evoke a seaside atmosphere. It is expected that the birds will migrate to warmer regions as temperatures drop further in the high-altitude city.
