Seamus Coleman discusses Everton career and motivation
Former Everton captain Seamus Coleman has reflected on his 17-year tenure at the club during an appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. Coleman credited goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for preventing the club from being relegated to the Championship, stating that Pickford’s performances were essential to Everton remaining in the Premier League.
Coleman also revealed that he used blunt criticism from pundit Jamie Carragher as a motivational tool for his teammates during his time as captain. He noted that Carragher’s past negative comments regarding Everton’s defensive performances were utilized to drive the squad forward.
Regarding his professional future, the 38-year-old Irish international indicated he has not officially retired from football, citing a desire to remain available for potential Republic of Ireland international duty.
