Sean “Diddy” Combs faces legal fee dispute and lawsuit dismissal
Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing separate legal developments regarding his ongoing litigation. In a federal defamation lawsuit, attorneys from Sher Tremonte LLP have requested permission from a judge to withdraw from representing Combs. The firm alleges that Combs is in “substantial arrears” regarding legal fees and has failed to make payments for over six months. Additionally, the attorneys cited a “total breakdown in cooperation and communication,” claiming Combs has not been available for substantive discussions for several months.
Combs has disputed these claims through a spokesperson, stating he decided to change counsel because he would not allow himself to be “overcharged” with unauthorized legal bills.
In a separate matter, a federal judge dismissed a 15-count lawsuit against Combs filed by entertainer Julian Sapp. The lawsuit included allegations of sexual assault, drugging, and trafficking. U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Rochon granted the motion to dismiss, ruling that nearly all of the claims were barred by the statute of limitations. The judge noted that while Sapp alleged threats prevented him from filing sooner, the complaint failed to demonstrate reasonable diligence in pursuing legal rights in the decade following the alleged encounters.
