Sean Combs' lawyers seek to withdraw from $100M lawsuit

Attorneys from Sher Tremonte LLP have filed a motion to withdraw from representing Sean “Diddy” Combs in his $100 million defamation lawsuit. The firm cites a substantial balance of unpaid legal fees, costs, and expenses that have been outstanding for more than six months. Additionally, the lawyers claim a total breakdown in communication, stating that Combs has not been available for substantive discussions for over four months, making effective representation “unreasonably difficult.”

The defamation lawsuit targets Courtney Burgess, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and Nexstar Media Inc. (which operates NewsNation). The case stems from allegations made on NewsNation regarding Combs. While the legal team seeks to exit, Combs has disputed their claims through a spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer. Combs maintains that the decision to change lawyers was his own and characterizes the dispute as a business matter involving unapproved charges and overbilling.

A federal judge has since stayed discovery and ordered the firm to continue attempting to contact Combs at the federal prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey, to determine if he will secure new counsel or proceed pro se.
