Sean Duffy faces criticism over new reality series

On a recent episode of ‘Last Week Tonight’, host John Oliver criticized U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy regarding his new YouTube reality series, ‘The Great American Road Trip’. While the show is framed as a civic experience celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, Oliver characterized it as a manufactured family drama focused more on the Duffy family’s personal lives than on travel or national history.

Duffy stated that the series was funded by the independent company Great American Road Trip Inc. and did not use taxpayer money. However, the production was supported by 17 sponsors, including Boeing, Toyota, Shell, and United Airlines—all of which are entities overseen and regulated by the Department of Transportation.

The show features Duffy and his wife, Fox News contributor Rachel Campos Duffy. Oliver also mocked specific content within the series, including a segment regarding Duffy’s daughter’s potential enrollment at Harvard University.
