Sean Gunn retires from Rocket Raccoon motion-capture role

Actor Sean Gunn has announced his retirement from providing the motion-capture performance for Rocket Raccoon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While Bradley Cooper provides the character's voice, Gunn has spent over a decade providing the physical reference and on-set performance for the role.

Speaking on the ‘Main Character’ podcast with Brandon Davis, Gunn explained that the decision is due to the physical toll the role has taken on his body. He noted that the constant pivoting required while maintaining a crouched position has affected his ankles and feet.

“Since I’ve turned 50 a couple of years ago, I am retired from playing Rocket,” Gunn stated. He clarified that while Marvel has not officially asked him to step away, he feels he is no longer physically capable of performing the motion reference required for the character.
