Sean Sakaida arrested on child pornography charges

The FBI has arrested Sean Sakaida, a former girls wrestling coach at Moanalua High School, on charges of possession and receipt of child pornography. Sakaida, who was recognized as the 2025 National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Hawaii coach of the year, is currently held at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu.

The FBI’s Honolulu Field Office is seeking to identify potential victims, stating they believe Sakaida primarily targeted female wrestlers who were minors between 2012 and 2026. The FBI is urging anyone who may have been victimized or has relevant information to complete an online form, noting that victim identities will remain confidential.

Sakaida was placed on leave by Moanalua High School in the fall of 2025 following allegations of dating an athlete. Previous reports from 2012 noted that while coaching at Roosevelt High School, a parent accused him of inappropriate text messaging and kissing a 13-year-old student.
