Sean Steur earns praise from Newcastle coach following breakthrough

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has praised 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur for his maturity and confidence following his rapid integration into the first team. During a recent supporters’ Q&A, Jaissle singled out the former Ajax academy player as an example of the club’s ‘brave way’, noting his impressive ability to handle the responsibilities of senior football.

Steur, who joined Newcastle for a fee reaching approximately £23m/€27m, is also making significant strides on the international stage. After making his debut for the Netherlands U21 side against Norway, he earned his first start in a European Championship qualifier against Slovenia. During the match, Steur played a key role in the Netherlands' 4-2 comeback victory, forcing a save that led to an equalizer by Ayoub Oufkir.

Having previously won the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy at Ajax, Steur continues to demonstrate the technical qualities that made him a highly-rated prospect. His recent performances for both club and country mark a significant breakthrough in his professional career.
