UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has indicated that a title defense against Nassourdine Imavov is nearing finalization, pending successful pay negotiations. The rematch is expected to headline UFC 335 on December 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Strickland, who reclaimed the championship in May by defeating Khamzat Chimaev, confirmed the status of the bout via social media, stating, “We’re discussing pay now. Once that detail is squared its locked in.” He also included disparaging remarks regarding Imavov during the update.

Imavov enters the potential matchup on a five-fight winning streak, which includes victories over Israel Adesanya and Caio Borralho. The two fighters previously met in January 2023, where Strickland won via unanimous decision. While the fight has not been officially announced by the UFC, the champion suggests the deal is almost complete.
