Seapeak Maritime Holdings faces potential sanctions over Russian gas transport

The Danish Maritime Authority has indicated that the operations of Seapeak Maritime Holdings (Denmark) A/S may violate upcoming EU sanctions. In April, the global shipping company Seapeak moved the management of six specialized LNG tankers transporting Russian gas from Scotland to a Singapore-based entity owned through the Copenhagen-based Seapeak Maritime Holdings (Denmark) A/S.

According to the Danish Maritime Authority, technical assistance for LNG vessels operating in or for Russia will be prohibited starting January 1, 2027. This prohibition is expected to encompass ship management and the commercial handling of Russian cargo. Since the transition to Danish-owned management in Singapore, the six vessels have transported Russian liquefied natural gas valued at approximately 10 billion DKK, according to calculations by the NGO Urgewald.
