Search continues for five missing German passengers after capsized sailing boat near Syme, Greece

A sailing boat was found adrift in the open waters between the Greek island of Syme and the nearby islet of Seiskli on the night of 2 August. Eight German nationals – four men and four women – had boarded the vessel and later fell into the sea to swim. Two of them reached shore on their own and a third woman was rescued shortly before midnight. The remaining five passengers are still missing.

A large rescue operation is under way, involving three Coast Guard patrol boats, an open‑sea vessel, a Frontex ship and a Super Puma helicopter. Greek authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances that caused the boat to drift and are working to locate the missing individuals.
