Search continues for Luigi Cavallari, missing husband of Italy's family minister

Luigi Cavallari, 84, the husband of Italy’s Minister of the Family Eugenia Roccella, disappeared on 27 June 2026 after diving into Lake Vico during a boat outing. The lake’s murky, algae‑covered bottom and visibility of less than one metre have hampered recovery attempts.

Search operations, ongoing for nearly two weeks, involve more than a dozen fire‑brigade divers, sonar equipment, underwater robots, topographers mapping the area, and coordination with the Carabinieri, police and the Guardia di Finanza. A brief interruption occurred when a sudden storm produced high winds that threatened diver safety. As of 10 July 2026, no trace of Cavallari has been found. Minister Roccella has thanked the public for the “wave of affection” and support during this tragic period.
