Search for Nancy Guthrie Stalled as Mexican Authorities Delay Volunteer Probe

Nancy Guthrie, the 84‑year‑old mother of NBC "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1 after being abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the FBI, has released doorbell footage showing a masked suspect and is pursuing leads, including an anonymous tip about a possible burial site near the Mexican‑Arizona border.

Volunteer group Buscando Corazones in Nogales, Mexico, received the tip and planned searches in the Mariposa area of Sonora. A third search scheduled for June 16 was postponed because Mexican authorities were unavailable to accompany the volunteers, a required safety measure. The group later announced a follow‑up search focusing on two new, difficult‑to‑cover locations near Nogales.

Both the sheriff’s department and the volunteer organization say no evidence linking any of the graves found to Guthrie has emerged, and no suspect has been publicly identified.
