Search operations underway for missing man in Song, Sarawak

Search and rescue (SAR) operations are currently underway for 52-year-old James Nanta, who has been missing since October 22. Nanta disappeared while foraging for forest products in the Sungai Pera area of Nanga Bangkit, Song.

The first day of the search, involving the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), police, Civil Defence Force (APM), and local residents, concluded without finding any clues. Rescuers located the victim's boat approximately 45 minutes away from Rumah Panjang Sebastian Tambi, but a search of the river within a two-kilometer radius of the boat's location failed to locate him.

Due to difficult terrain, long travel times via logging roads and longboats, and weather conditions, the operation was suspended at 5:00 PM by the Song District Police Chief. The search is scheduled to resume tomorrow.
