Search suspended for three missing migrants in Strait of Gibraltar
Spanish authorities have suspended the search for three migrants who disappeared in the Strait of Gibraltar after their boat capsized. The operation, involving the Civil Guard’s Maritime Service in Ceuta and Salvamento Marítimo via maritime and aerial assets, concluded without locating any traces of the vessel or the missing individuals.
The incident occurred late Thursday night when the boat departed from the Calamocarro coast in Ceuta. Of the five people on board, two managed to reach the shore by swimming and raised the alarm. The vessel is presumed to have overturned due to the weight of its occupants, as weather conditions were reported as light westerly winds that could have favored navigation.
Due to intense search efforts and strong currents in the area, officials determined that finding further evidence was unlikely. However, vessels navigating the Strait—one of the world's busiest maritime routes—have been alerted to report any sightings or relevant information regarding the missing persons.
