Seasonal changes arrive in Japan with autumn foliage and swan migrations
Seasonal transitions are underway across Japan, marked by autumn foliage and bird migrations. In Hokkaido, the autumn colors around Lake Onneto have reached their peak, with recent low temperatures enhancing the vibrancy of the red and yellow leaves. Additionally, Whooper swans have begun arriving at Lake Furen in Nemuro City from Siberia, with populations expected to reach nearly 5,000 birds by early November.
Weather patterns indicate a shift toward late autumn. While some areas may see warmer daytime temperatures, a low-pressure system is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of Hokkaido mid-week. Higher elevations, such as the Shikoku and Mikuni mountain passes, may experience snow and icy road conditions.
In Nagano Prefecture, early autumn colors are appearing in the Tateshina highlands. Due to warmer temperatures this year, the progression of foliage in eastern and western Japan has been slower than usual, though high-altitude areas are beginning to show seasonal changes.
