Japan celebrates autumn harvest with seasonal food festivals and bountiful crops
Japan is seeing a surge in seasonal autumn food offerings and a bountiful harvest of traditional autumn flavors.
In Yokohama, the AOBA CRAFT ICE CREAM MARKET will be held at Tama Plaza Terrace, featuring 23 craft ice cream shops from across the country and local vendors from Aoba Ward. The event aims to highlight regional food charms and local agriculture.
Agricultural reports indicate a successful harvest for autumn staples. Shine Muscat grapes are reported to be larger and sweeter than last year, with prices in some areas dropping by approximately 20 percent due to the abundance. Other crops such as chestnuts, lotus root, sweet potatoes, and taro are also seeing high yields and favorable pricing.
Retailers and cafes are launching seasonal menus to match the harvest. Roasted COFFEE LABORATORY is introducing fig and tea-themed desserts, including pancakes and crepes. Odakyu Department Store in Shinjuku is hosting the ‘& mélanger’ food festival, featuring limited-edition sweets made with Ecuadorian bananas and specialty items like pastry-chef-made curry. Additionally, Dipper Dan is releasing autumn-themed crepes and drinks featuring chestnut, pumpkin, and sweet potato.
