Fruit harvests in Switzerland and Germany face varying yields

The fruit harvest season is underway in Switzerland and Germany, though yields face varying challenges. In Switzerland, the Swiss Fruit Association (SOV) reports that the apple harvest is expected to reach 96,000 tonnes, a 5% decrease from 2025 and nearly 10% below the five-year average. Conversely, the pear harvest is projected at 16,000 tonnes, representing a 20% increase from the previous year.

In Germany, particularly around Lake Constance, farmers anticipate an apple harvest approximately 20% smaller than last year due to drought and sun damage. Despite lower volumes, producers report high quality, noting that the fruit is exceptionally sweet and aromatic.

Sustainability remains a focus for German fruit growers. Producers are increasingly integrating modern technologies, such as precision drip irrigation and biological pest control, to manage resources like water and nutrients more effectively while promoting biodiversity.
