Seasonal fruits and lifestyle habits support immune health

As colder weather approaches, seasonal fruits such as rose hip (Rosa canina) and cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) serve as significant natural sources of vitamin C. Rose hips, harvested in autumn, contain vitamin C, carotenoids, and polyphenols, which are studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. To preserve vitamin C, care must be taken during processing, as the nutrient is sensitive to heat.

While many seek ‘immune bombs’ or supplements to combat cold season, health experts emphasize that the immune system is a complex network that requires support rather than constant high activity. Rather than relying on single superfoods, maintaining a healthy immune system is best achieved through foundational lifestyle habits. These include getting seven to nine hours of quality sleep, eating a diverse diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, and healthy fats, staying active, managing stress, and following vaccination recommendations.
