Seasonal hair loss: Experts explain autumn shedding and care

Experts indicate that increased hair loss during autumn is a natural biological phenomenon known as seasonal telogen effluvium. This process involves hair follicles entering a resting phase before shedding, which often results in a transient increase in hair turnover rather than permanent density loss.

Dr. Cristina de Hoyos, a dermatologist and trichologist, notes that while the shedding is visible in autumn, the triggers may have occurred months earlier during summer due to factors such as UV exposure, stress, fever, weight loss, or dietary changes. Because hair does not respond immediately to stimuli, there is often a delay between the cause and the actual shedding.

Regarding hair care treatments, Luz Aranda, a cosmetics expert from NewFlag, notes that while rosemary oil is widely used for its revitalizing properties and ability to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, it is often better to use specific scalp products rather than pure rosemary oil. Natural oils like almond or coconut are noted for hydration and nourishment, but professional consultation is recommended for managing hair loss.
