Seasonal home ventilation and lighting strategies

Seasonal changes in temperature and light require adjustments to home ventilation and layout to maintain comfort and efficiency.

During spring, increasing natural light and airflow can refresh living spaces. To prevent rooms from overheating, it is recommended to manage direct sunlight and utilize cross-ventilation by opening windows at different points in a house. Removing heavy winter textiles, such as wool blankets, can also help create a lighter atmosphere.

In autumn, managing humidity is critical to prevent condensation and mold. Effective strategies include brief, intense ventilation—approximately 5 to 10 minutes twice daily—rather than leaving windows partially open for long periods. Utilizing cross-ventilation by opening opposite windows or interior doors helps renew air volume quickly. To save energy, heating systems should be turned off or lowered during ventilation periods to avoid wasting heat.
