Seasonal self-harvesting of produce begins in Slovakia and Czech Republic
Self-harvesting seasons for various fruits and vegetables are underway in parts of Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
In the Nitra Region of Slovakia, apple picking is active in locations such as Veľká Baba and near Cabaja-Čápore. Prices for apples range from 0.60 to 0.70 euros per kilogram, with varieties like Gala, Rubinola, and Melódia available. Despite a challenging growing season marked by heatwaves, droughts, and storms, growers report that the fruit remains sweet and juicy. Plum harvesting is also beginning in areas like Branč.
In Zdice, Czech Republic, farmers are organizing self-harvesting events for potatoes, pumpkins, onions, and garlic. For instance, potatoes are available at 10 Czech koruna per kilogram. Farmers encourage participants to bring their own containers and provide assistance to elderly visitors during the harvest.
